Notes

The edition is based on a preliminary transliteration by A. George who also passed to us some new readings and corrections.

rev. 24'–35': very damaged Akkadian incantation, including an Akkadian version of part of the Asalluḫe-Enki formula (l. 28'): ša a-na-ku i-du-ú at-ta ti-de “what I know, you also know” (// CT 4 8: 30). The content, such as can be read, determines that it is a spell to counter the effects of scorpion-sting: see especially l. 31', in which Sîn is stung in his brickyard, quoted in Chapter II, introduction to No. 49. Thereafter is a mannam lušpur formula (32'–34'): ⌈ma-an-na-amlu-uš-pu-ur a-na mārāt(dumu-munus)mešanim(an)nim 7 7 ša-ap me-e li-il-qé-a-nim / [ka-an-ni-ši-na] ša ḫu-ra-ṣi-im ka-ar-pa-ti-ši-na ša uq-ni-im el-li-im / [li-iš-ku-na-ma me]-e b/pu-ra-tim el-lu-tim li-iš-ti “Who should I send to the Daughters of Anu, so they bring their twice seven water flasks, [so they set up] their potstands of gold and pots of pure lapis lazuli, so (the victim) may drink pure water from the wells (or the Euphrates).” For the mannam lušpur formula in other Akkadian incantations, see the textual note on No. 48: 14–15 in Chapter II.
