    Translation

        King Sargon,

king of Akkade, the market city,

strong king, who speaks with the gods.

        Adad has given him strength:

        from sunrise

        to sunset

        I conquered the land and

        in a single day,

I gave the weapon to 70 cities.

I captured their princes and destroyed their cities.

I swear by Adad, lord of strength,

      and Ištar, mistress of battle:

I saw a gazelle and threw a brick

      into the river. When

I was running, my girdle broke and

I provided myself with a snake and I ran (on)

and caught the gazelle. I rose the brick out of the water.

I swear by Adad and Ištar:

      1 thousand oxen, 6 thousand

sheep I truly slaughter every day.

7 thousand are my heroes who

eat briskets in my presence every day.

      3 thousand are my runners

who eat long parts (of meat).

      1 thousand are my cupbearers

      eat the top part

      of the lower legs until

      being satisfied.

      My ... invited and

      my 7 thousand heroes

    Rev.

      ate briskets. For

the last (man) there was not enough brisket.

      He slaughtered his ox

from Kušam(m)anu belonging to his seat and

      gave to the last (man)

      a brisket. My cook

      burnt mediocre (meat)(?) and

as his punishment he slaughtered 1 hundred oxen,

      2 hundred sheep, and I/he

fed my servants. I swear by Adad

and Ištar: For 7 years, one month

and two weeks I truly stayed in the darkness

      together with my troops.

      Coming out (again), I tied

a (measuring) reed of carnelian and lapis lazuli, and

      for the land

I made a division. The mountain umanum

I divided in two parts and as

a peg (= boundary marker) between them I erected

      my image. The prince

of Tukriš I dressed in an (animal) skin.

(The men of) udura – I applied slave marks to their heads.

Alašia – I covered their heads like

     that of a woman.

I chopped as if cutting off their noses.

     The heads of the Kilarites

      I tied with straps.

–60          I released the sutuus of the people of Kaniš.

I shaved the middle of the heads of (the men of) atti.

–62          I pierced the Lumeans with a toggle-pin. As for Qutitum, Lullu and au: I slit open their cloths.

I touched three fringes of the sky with my hands. Why should

I make numerous (words) on tablets? Does Anum not know me, (and ) that I am the king

(and that) I seized the upper and the lower land?

May they increase the regular offerings for me. Adad is king.
